When you have finished using your caravan for season we have some tips on tucking it up for the winter months.

  • A thorough vacuum and clean especially under seats in all storage areas to remove all food as crumbs will attract field mice.¬† Kitchen areas need to be cleaned to prevent mould¬† appearing, the fridge should be cleaned with a solution of bicarbonate of soda and door to be left ajar usually with the special catch, to allow the air to circulate.
  • Store cushions upright away from the sides and fixed beds in upright position again allowing air to circulate.
  • Blinds should be stored upright, if left down the springs are in a stretched position thus causing a strain on the mechanism.
  • Leave wardrobe doors, drawers and lockers open.
  • Ensure all roof lights, vents and windows are closed.
  • Completely drain the water system down, open all the taps, remove the shower head, open all drain plugs, run on-board pumps for a few minutes, it wont hurt it to run dry for a few minutes.
  • Empty water carriers, waste water containers and cassette toilets completely.
  • Close gas valves off or disconnect regulators.
  • It’s a good idea to leave a few moisture traps around or bowls of salt to absorb and moisture in the air.
  • Finally, check caravan handbook for additional winter weather advice.
